Fendi Documentary | Inside the Mothership

The intoxicating thrill of preparing for a fashion show, the launch of a new flagship, the adrenaline rush of D-day… the new documentary Inside The Mothership by filmmaker Loic Prigent trains an insider’s eye on the house of Fendi and the whirlwind leading up to its spring/summer 2014 runway presentation, which took place on September 19, 2013.

Apart from Fendi’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld, the documentary also stars brand heirs Silvia Venturini Fendi and Delfina Delettrez Fendi, chairman and CEO Pietro Beccari, and stylist Charlotte Stockdale — who’s charged with editing the final cut of garments that hit the runway.

Gesturing at a room stocked wall-to-wall with clothes, Stockdale says, “This has to become 49 outfits, but I’d say there was potential for about a 100 outfits.”

The film also spotlights the luxury label’s innovations in textile fabrication, especially a particular technique of shaving fur to create texture, which Stockdale claims only the technicians at Fendi can do.
